Create your own automation

Write instructions once and let a schedule or a GitHub event start the run.

Any member of the organization can create an automation. Only its creator or an admin can change it.

How do I create one?

  1. Open Automations and select New automation, or pick one under Start from a template.
  2. Give it a Name, choose what it Works on, and write its Instructions.
  3. Under Add a trigger, choose when it starts.
  4. Select Save, then turn on Active.

Select Test to try it before you turn it on. A template starts turned off, with no repository chosen.

What can start an automation?

  • On a schedule: every day or every week, at a time in your timezone
  • From a pull request: when one opens, or on every push to it
  • When CI fails on a pull request
  • When an issue gets a label

An automation can have up to five triggers.

How long can the instructions be?

Up to 8,000 characters. The name can be up to 80.

How do I delete one?

Hold Hold to delete automation until it completes. Its past runs stay in the history.
